Maternity photography holds a very special place in the line up of services I offer. My main goal is to capture emotions – love and excitement between mother, father and their new addition to the family. The session allows you to truly bond with your partner and your baby. Capturing this very special milestone in your life will allow you always have memories of your little one in the tummy!

Here are some things to know when planning for your maternity session with CHINPHOTOGRAPHICS:

When is the best time to take maternity photos?

The ideal time for maternity photos is between 7 to eight months (or 30-35 weeks). During this time your tummy is the perfect size but not too big where you have started to get stretch marks.

What should I wear?

This is entirely up to you, however you can choose to wear a long flow maternity dress, or a simple dress that shows your tummy. Some mothers may be uncomfortable showing off the belly, while others are more open to making the belly the focal point of the session. The category you fall into will determine the type of dress you wear. You can even decide to shoot in the nude or with a thin fabric covering. There are many artistic ways to show off your pregnancy in the nude, however this type of session required clear and open lines of communication between all parties to effectively deliver on expectations.

What should I bring to the session? 

I recommend that you have comfortable shoes, a change of clothes, and lots of water to keep you hydrated. It may also be useful to bring a makeup kit so you can apply a bit of touchups here and there.

What about props? 

While props are not necessary, they are a great way to a personalized touch to your maternity photos. Things like a baby outfit, or baby shoes, balloons, blocks or even your ultrasound photo can all be great props to have during the session.

Any tips on location?

Choosing a location for your maternity session is similar to choosing a location for an engagement session. You can choose between a park or garden type setting, or a water environment like a beach, river or waterfall. You may even choose to do a studio session for greater flexibility and control.
