MY STYLE AND APPROACH
My images not only depicts what it looks like… They reveal what it feels like!
MY SIGNATURE STYLE
I consider myself a creative storyteller that focuses on raw emotions. Aesthetically, my images are sharp, clean, vibrant and true to colour. The emotional story being told by my images will draw you in and hold your attention. My style of wedding photography is a mixture of creative documentary, photojournalism, traditional and modern editorial fashionable. I always try to photograph the wedding as it naturally unfolds – limiting the amount of interruptions as much as possible. I remain as unobtrusive as possible while capturing the genuine emotions of the wedding day. There are times however, especially during the group and couples sessions where I will take full creative control in directing, posing, and manipulating the scene with advanced lighting to achieve the absolutely best results.
PHOTOJOURNALISTIC
In order to be a good wedding photographer one has to be aware of everything that is happening and be ready to capture it in a split second. This is exactly what photojournalism is — being aware of every fleeting moment, every emotion, every hug, every smile, every laugh, every cry… It’s about telling a complete story with what is happening in the moment. This is why it is important to always be in the right place at the right time. Always anticipating the next moment. Waiting patiently and deliberately making every single frame count!
CREATIVE
Creativity is an art-form that is honed over years and years of practice and hard work. I have mastered a number of different techniques using light manipulation and other creative effects to create stunning imagery. I am constantly trying find new and unique ways of interpreting a scene with different perspectives and focal lengths. I am always looking for interesting foreground elements, reflections, back-lit flares, frames, and anything I can find to make the image more interesting.
MODERN EDITORIAL
This style of photography is a mixture of traditional posing and fashion photography. Depending on your particular wedding and your wedding attire, I will style and pose you in ways you typically see in fashion magazines. There is a strong focus on the environment in these images, either with a stunning location or beautiful dramatic skies. This fresh modern approach is highly desired by fashion forward brides and grooms who put a lot of time and effort into choosing their wedding attire and want that to be the focus of the images.
ROMANTIC
This style speaks for itself. It showcases the love and romance between the couple. It incorporates lots of fun, candid and romantic images. The images can either be dramatic with strong contrast or they can be bright and playful.
MY APPROACH
Although all weddings are different, I approach every single one of them the same way. I prioritize relationships and emotions and so my focus is always on capturing the pure connections during the day. This is especially evident in family dynamics. A wedding is truly a joining together of two families – not just two people – so placing my main focus on this dynamic ensures that I never miss an opportunity for great images.
Besides family dynamics and emotions, I also place a great deal of time and energy into photographing all your special details. Your wedding details may be small but they do have a huge impact on the day itself. I photograph everything from your clothes, jewellery, stationery, wedding favors, souvenirs, decor, wedding venue, the cake, the food, and everything in between. You spent money on them so they deserves to be preserved!
For everything else, my approach is simple – have lots of fun! Having fun can really loosen the tension that builds up during the day. I like to ensure that everyone is as comfortable as possible so that there is no undue stress. Once everyone is comfortable its easy to loosen up and have fun!
MY EDITING STYLE
A huge part of my workflow and my approach has to do with how I edit my images. If you do a quick search online for wedding photography you will see a wide variety of different looking images – some are dark and moody, some are bright and airy, some are highly colour casted, some have crazy filters, other may look over edited. It is important that your wedding images look natural and true to life. My approach to editing is always to reproduce as close as possible how I see things on the day. I ensure that the colours are accurate and the image is sharp and vibrant. I do incorporate other creative editing techniques such as black and white images to give an added element of depth and emotion to my images. This type of editing makes my images timeless in that they will forever stand the test of time — unlike some images plastered with a vintage preset which will look outdated as time passes.
